How fast will Prednisone relieve my mono sore throat symptoms? My doctor prescribed Prednisone for my sore throat/mono yesterday, I took the pills at about 12pm. By 6pm, i had almost no pain, and by 10pm the pain was gone. Granted, I did take a vicodin at about 1pm, but that shouldn't have lasted THAT long for the pain. Is the prednisone really that effective? I was prescribed 20mg pills, I took 3 yesterday and 3 today. I havent taken any vicodin since the pill yesterday.

chronic sore throat for over 6 months on right side? I've had a chronic sore throat for over 6 months on the right side of my throat. I've been to the ENT and had my tonsils removed b/c i had a bunch of nasty tonsil stones. My throat is still sore though. I went back to the ENT and they gave me prednisone and they told me to take mucinex. I've been on it for a week thought and no improvement. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Finally I would just keep a piece of hard candy in my mouth and eventually it went away. Never know if that's what helped but you could try the candy thing. It kind of keeps your throat moist."

Alternative remedies for sore throat, swollen lymph nodes and post-nasal drip? First off, please don't tell me to see a doctor. I've seen the doctor a half dozen times, and I've even spent 3 days in the hospital having tests done to make sure there's not a serious cause. I've taken care of that possibility. Now, I've been sick on and off for about 8 months. It'll vary from just a slight sore throat to all the lymph nodes in my neck being swollen. I have post-nasal drip pretty much all the time, ranging from just a slight gunkiness to having to constantly spit. The post-nasal actually borders on debilitating sometimes because swallowing that amount of mucus is impossible, but spitting isn't exactly always socially acceptable. The lymph nodes in my neck can get extremely, extremely painful as well, to the point where I can't turn my head or even yawn without feeling pain. I've gone through at least ten kinds of antibiotics with very little effectiveness; the steroid Prednisone succeeded in relieving the neck pain, but can't be taken for a long period. Help? Thanks for all the answers: salsa, I appreciate the effort, but the stuff they're selling is crap compared to Nutrilite. keepsondancing: I love everything you said, the only problem is, I've already done all that. I've popped vitamin C like it was candy for basically the past 6 years to ease drainage, and I take Echinacea the first 10 days of every month. I've stopped the vitamin C for now to see if it relieves some stomach pain I've been having that can be caused by vitamin C supplements, though. I'll try the rest, thanks y'all.

It is a powerful immune system support. 1000 mg/day is the recommmended dosage to prevent colds, sore throats and common infections like yours. However, because it is water-soluble, it is almost impossible to overdose on it. Up to 6000 mg./day is recommended as an anti-aging strategy. When you feel a cold or sore throat coming on, increase the dosage to 100 mg/ every 2 hours, combined with 2 Echinacea capsules. Take 1 zinc lozenge per day. Continue until bedtime, and if symptoms persist the next morning, continue for one more day. Symptoms should disappear. Linus Pauling, the only person to win two Nobel Prizes, did extensive research on C and made these recommendations. Personal experience has validated it over and over. If 1000 mg/day is not enough to end your experiences with swollen glands etc., try increasing the dosage in 500 mg increments. Last monday I started off with a sore throat, went to the doctor on thursday and I started medicine called azithromoycin and prednisone, my mom says my throats still red but not as red as it use to be. Help with sore throat? So I got my sore throat friday morning. It wasn't too bad..but by the end of the day it got worse i also had a fever...but the sore throat is more important..my mom couldn't get me into the doctor until monday and I needed something so she took me to the ER. they gave me some antibiotics for my sick crappage. i took them til monday morning and nothing changed to so we got an appointment at my reg doctor. he gave me a shot and some prednisone that i have to take for three days to help the swelling in my throat go down faster. and he had me come back in the next day to see if anything got better. it had gotten a little better. but i still couldn't eat and barley drink. and swallowing my saliva hurts damn bad.I deffinatly couldn't swallow the big pills the ER told me to take. So I got another antibiotic shot thinger. I took the prednisone around 3:30 and it's like 6 right now.I haven't eaten normally since thursday. I'm realllyy hungry. i'm despirate for this to go away. finals are tomorrow and i have to go no matter how bad my throat still hurts. i'm trying to lay off the pills as much as possible. and swallowing all together i want to avoid. and i just don't know what to do anymore. i've had this for almost a week. it started friday. today is tuesday. Fast cures would be nice to know??

What causes excessive phlegm originating from my throat? My nose and sinuses are clear and there is no nose discharge. My chest is also clear and I have no cough condition either. At night towards morning I feel a dry and sore throat which goes away as the day advances. Any time I can expectorate small quantities of sticky and slightly yellow phlegm from the base of the throat and wind pipe. Occasionally I get muscle pains as if I am due for a viral infection. I have no fever. So far my GP prescribed and I have taken anti biotic Doxycycline and Roxithromycin, Prednisone, Beclomethason and last Omerprazole without any reduction of the symptoms. I wonder if this can be due to a cancer condition in my throat.

If it's not an infection, I doubt if it's cancer. Your GP would have already detected that. Do you smoke? Try drinking more water, and if you do smoke, stop."

It sounds like you have some kind of bacterial pharyngitis or mild bronchitis (the purulent exudate you desribe is consistent) that hasn't cleared up yet -- though it might not while you continue taking corticosteroids. You might need to switch antibiotics if the bacteria is resistant to what you're currently taking."

not strep or mono, white patches and sore throat-what could it be?!? ok i went to the doctor 2 wks ago with a severe sore throat and fever of 102, he looked at my throat, said i was fine and told me to come back mon. if i still felt bad. well i did, and he decided to run a strep test and give me meds "just in case" but he still didn't believe it was strep-results came back and it WAS strep. i took a zpack for 5 days, finished it and still had a bad sore throat. i looked and had the white patches and sore throat, so i went to an urgent care that saturday to see what was wrong with me. he took a strep test which came back neg, but said he thought it was mono so he ran a monospot and gave me prednisone. the monosp came back neg. i've been on the pred. for 4 days now, have 2 days left, and my throat still hurts badly. i basically just eat jello, bc anything hot makes it hurt more. here's a pic to help anyone with any md knowledge: any suggestions as to what might be wrong? going to the dr=$$$$$$

how long does the severe sore throat from mono last? Ive had an excrutiatingly sore throat since last sunday Ive been on percocet, codein, 600 mill. of high grade motrin, prednisone and antibodies and still im in pain when i swallow. Yesterday i seemed to be getting better and then today bam back to immense pain. the docs all suspect i have mono I got a test done but it came back negative because it was the first weekish of having the disease so how long do I have to wait until my sore throat gets bearable again? xoyourbestmistake34 replied: "The severity and duration of the symptoms depends on the severity of the disease. There is no way to determine how long it will be until you get better. I had mono a little over a year ago and it took me almost two years to get better. However, my case was very, very extreme-- sore throat, swollen tonsils and other lymph nodes, decreased liver function resulting in jaundice and bile in urine. I know other people who only had a sore throat and it only lasted for a few weeks. I hope you feel better! I know how terrible mono is. Make sure you do not play any contact sports until you are better because mononucleosis makes your spleen swell and it could burst if you get hit in the abdomen."
